VIDEO: Opinion piece – Bikers asked to change their attitude

Last Friday a concerned reader reported about some local motorcycle riders making all riders look bad.

Letter from a Middelburg Observer reader:

This is definitely the case and motorcycle clubs should address this with their members immediately. Other readers are of the same opinion (and I am sure there are many) as letters complaining about motorcycle riders was printed in this newspaper before.

On Sunday morning before 7:00 a bunch of seven riders visited our peaceful residential complex with motorcycles of which all had noisy exhaust systems. As everybody knows a Harley Davidson sounds nice but to wake up to the load noise of one is not nice.

To worsen the case the owner living in our complex, together with the seven other riders, then started their motorcycles up again at 7:15 without any regard to other people in the complex.

Exiting and revving to the gate took more than four minutes and a misunderstanding between them caused the gate to seize and stayed closed for another minute or so before they could leave. Not bothered to wait until the gate closed, as it is requested on the gate for security reasons.

I beg for these culprits to change their attitude and be RESPECTFUL and treat others as they expect to be treated. This is a general phenomenon between people and if this could change for the better, our lovely town together with the whole South Africa will be a much better and happier place to live in.

Let’s us rather think what we can do for others than trying to get the better from everybody else and only benefit oneself.

Very few people can travel at the same speed as a motorcycle, so to expect the traffic department to do anything about this is not practical.

Leaders of motorcycle clubs and their respectful members can do much more than any of us. So we request them to speak to their members and make the necessary difference. Please give us reason to change our opinion of motorcycle riders!
