Video: Hari Krishna festival
For the first time in the history of the Hari Krishna, a Chariot of Festivals was held in Middelburg on Sunday 28 September by the Hari Krishna Organisation of South-Africa.
The concept of Hari Krishna started in India and the concept went across the Western Countries under the Swami Prabhupad.
Who knew that even the well known group, The Beatles, became Hari Krishna devotees? During that period the hippies in America all became devotees by chanting and being happy.
With this Food for Life programme, the spirituality of the people in this area is uplifted and an awareness is taught not to kill animals and to become vegetarians. They also gave out food to the needy on the day.
During the festival about 300 people also took part in the peaceful walk where they pulled a chariot from the Steve Tshwete Municipality to the Eastdene Hall where the festivities continued.
• The Festival of Chariots is performed in every country across the world and dates back thousands of years to Jagannatha Puri, India.
