Patient in isolation Ebola fear

A Nigerian national with suspected Ebola symptoms was admitted to the Middelburg Provincial Hospital on Wednesday 17 September.

Ebola is an infectious and generally fatal disease marked by fever and severe internal bleeding.

The outbreak of the virus has killed thousands of people and left many devastated in Africa.

The man had just landed from Nigeria with fever, headache, a sore throat, weakness and nose bleeding.

An informant indicated that the Middelburg Hospital was preparing an isolation ward for a suspected Ebola patient on Wednesday.

He was first taken to the Witbank Civic Centre and sent to the Middelburg Provincial Hospital for further testing.

“The blood test results were negative for Ebola but tested positive for a common flu,” said Philemon Letlalo, CEO of the Middelburg Provincial Hospital.

He further added that they are very careful with such cases and every person from a high risk area such as Nigeria, Kenya, Liberia to add but a few, will be tested thoroughly for Ebola.
