Interrupted on his way to mosque
A man was interrupted on his way to the mosque to pray during lunch-hour by a spiteful motorist. The man, who did not want his name mentioned, said that he was looking for a parking in Alaart Snyman Street, next to the mosque in the CBD.
A red Toyota Hilux pick-up was parked over two parking spots. The man asked the driver, who was standing in front of the vehicle to please move it forward so that he can park in the space behind it.
“The man got into his bakkie, but then for some reason decided not to move.”
Once again the man asked the driver to please move half a metre to the front so his car can fit in the parking space.
“I told him I am on my way to pray, and that I will pray for him too.”
A confrontation ensued, causing the man to miss his midday prayer.
“We are fasting. All we ask for is a little .”
•Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, and the month in which the Quran was revealed.
Fasting during the month of Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. The month is spent by Muslims fasting during the daylight hours from dawn to sunset.
The Quran was sent down to the lowest heaven during this month, thus being prepared for gradual revelation by Jibreel (Gabriel) to the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Furthermore, Muhammad told his followers that the gates of Heaven would be open all the month and the gates of Hell (Jahannam) would be closed.
The first day of the next month, Shawwal, is spent in celebration and is observed as the “Festival of Breaking Fast” or Eid al-Fitr.
•The Middelburg Observer wish all our Muslim readers a blessed Ramadan.
