‘Mshengu’ gets bail
The Middelburg Magistrate's Court has granted Sam ‘Mshengu’ Chabalala R500 000 bail.
Chabalala made his court appearance on Wednesday.
Chabalala was arrested and charged with corruption and bribery after he allegedly attempted to bribe a senior police official to release his luxury vehicle and make a docket related to his other case disappear.
The case was remanded to March 13.
The Citizen reported that it was revealed in court that the flamboyant businessman’s real name is Gilbert Tachuona and he was born in Zimbabwe.
Chabalala came into national prominence in July 2019 when he took a convoy of 72 cars to the Durban July horse-racing event.
