#TrafficUpdate: Police intervene after escalation in taxi protest

The taxi dispute that took place at the intersection between Nelson Mandela Drive and Sondagsrivier Street escalated to violence and led to police intervention.

Rivals in the taxi industry were fighting amongst each other over taxi routes, which led to the closure of the busy intersection near Middelburg Mall.

Tensions arose during the situation and a civilian was injured during a scuffle by some of the protesters.

According to Captain Khanyisile Zwane, the police dispersed the crowd and ten taxis are currently being towed away.
