Two killed in accident

"I just heard a bang, our car spiralled out of control, I couldn't feel my feet as my wife dragged me out of the wreck, and I couldn't see my daughter," Mr Lucas Mtsweni, driver of the car and father of the deceased little girl, who was killed in a tragic accident on Saturday, told the Observer.

The accident in which Ms Randy Maredi (30), and Nomfundo Valencia Khumalo (11), died, happened on the corner of Cowen Ntuli and Meyers Street.

A white Jeep drove into Mr Mtsweni’s black Hyundai from behind, where Mr Mtsweni was waiting for the traffic light to turn green.

According to witnesses on the scene, the driver of the Jeep quickly reversed and sped off. The driver of the Jeep then drove into a wall, a block away from the scene.

“I will never forget the pain of seeing my daughter at the back of that wreck. She was such a good and respectful child,” Mr Mtsweni said.

The Jeep driver Piet Jacobs, was arrested on charges of culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving and malicious damage to property. He appeared in court on Monday and was denied bail. He is expected to reappear on the 7 December.

The funeral of Ms Maredi and little Valencia will take place on Saturday, at 06:00 in Mapimpane village, Doornkop.
