Pastor: ‘They will pay’

Steve Tshwete Local Municipality demolished a church in Mhluzi on Monday morning describing it as an "illegal structure".

The church, which was built from iron and concrete, was situated on a business stand in Mountain View.

The pastor and church members were furious to learn from a passersby that their church was being demolished by municipal workers and security guards from Fofo Security. The material was confiscated by the municipal workers.

According to the Pastor of Healing Souls Ministries, Solly Magagula, he did not get a written notice of eviction.

“We are renting the stand from Mr Malapane and he can decide whether or not we must move. The Municipal Manager phoned me to say that we must vacate the stand two weeks ago, the notice was verbal not written,” said Pastor Magagula.

“Our church services have been disrupted. Where do they expect us to hold our services as there are no church stands available in Middelburg?” added Pastor Magagula.

According to Ms Prudence Magutle of the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality, Mr Solly Magagula was issued with a notice by the building inspectors on the 27th of August.

The church is an illegal structure as per municipal regulations. His belongings were confiscated during the demolishing for safety, he can collect them at his convenience, no fines will be issued.

We did not appoint Fofo Security to demolish the structure but the municipality appointed a service provider in terms of our supply chain management policy, said Ms Magutle.

“Everyone who participated in demolishing my church, has demolished his own life. They can not mess with God,” concluded the angry pastor.
