CBD road closures on Thursday and Friday
Major traffic delays will be enforced on Thursday 01 October and Friday 02 October when 4SAI soldiers, externally deployed to Sudan for the past seven months, will take to the streets of the CBD for a Freedom of the City parade.
Freedom of the City is an honour bestowed on a valued member of the community, a visiting dignitary or celebrity, or in this case our troops who have completed their deployment to Sudan as UN missionaries in Operation Cordite.
The parade will also commemorate a century of service from World War 1.
The formal parade will take place on Friday, October 2, at 10:00.
The following routes will therefore be closed for traffic: Hospital Road, right into Walter Sisulu, right into Wanderers Avenue, left into John Magagula, past Cowen Ntuli, Bhimy Damane, towards the old Mascot centre, where the parade will conclude around 11:30.
A practice parade will however be undertaken on Thursday, which will also necessitate road closures.
Motorists are urged to use alternative routes.
Roads will be reopened as the parade passes certain points.
Motorists must please be cautious, and follow all instructions by municipal traffic officials and 4SAI security personnel.
Inquiries can be directed to the municipal communications offices on 013 249 7000.
