Arrested for ‘faking kidnapping’
A 53 year old man from Rockdale alleged plan to defraud the Nasareth District Taxi Association (NDTA) failed leading to his arrest on Thursday.
“Video footage at the Machadodorp toll gate on the N4 shows how the man exited his vehicle, leaving his car key in the ignition.
He then hitch-hiked to Nelspruit where he phoned the NDTA chairperson pretending to be the kidnapper and asking for R70 000 ransom money,” said Captin Khanyisile Zwane of the SAPS.
Abram Zamido Magagula was found sitting at a parking lot in Nelspruit where he was arrested.
Magagula was initially reported missing by his wife and daughter on Thursday.
He was traced by a Grabber, a device used by the police to trace a person’s location by their cellphones.
Magagula appeared in Court on Friday and was charged with defeating the end of justice and attempting to defraud the NDTA.
He was released on R1 000 bail and is expected to appear in court again on the 3rd of September.
