Update: Fire in Bloedrivier Street
"Coppers burning, grinders going off and transformers being delivered," was an everyday site at the Bloedrivier house in Aerorand that caught fire on Friday according to a neighbour.
“The house was like a mini workshop.”
The unoccupied house belongs to a Mr Phokela who is said to own a copper company in the Industrial area, the possible explanation to large quantities of copper, gas cylinders, conveyor belts and transformers on the premises.
“A spontaneous fire was ruled out because of the presents of the industrial material on the premises and a possible case of arson is being investigated. This was by far the largest industrial fire we have ever had in a residential area,” said Mr Andre Mashiloane of Fire and Rescue.
“We had a water challenge but team work between the fire and rescue officials of Middelburg and Witbank, Columbus and other organisations helped us to get the fire under control.”
