VIDEO: Something out of Nothing
From a vandalized Municipal building to a tourist attraction, indeed Something out of Nothing.
In August of 1989 Sarah Mahlangu who is a nurse by profession saw an entrepreneur gap and grabbed it with both hands… she started her own African inspired catering restaurant as she was unemployed and wanted to assist other women as well.
She collected her materials at the dumping site such as mayonnaise bottles, trays, newspapers to create handbags, decorative tins, music instruments and even traditional clothing.

She has 4 permanent employees and temporary staff members for when she hosts events.
She decorated the place herself, inspired by all African cultures and she also does the catering herself with assistance from her staff.
She hosts weddings, all sorts of parties, year end functions, you name it.
She has no sponsorship, she generates her income by hosting functions and the selling or hiring of clothes and products.
However she always wants to create something out of nothing, she is currently on a project with Tswenyane Combined School to assist disabled and slow learners in making crafty things such as handbags, clothing and decorative stuff from basically what people would call nothing (Scrap material from the dump).
She has grown tremendously as she also hosts international tourists, “I would like to thank God,” she said with tears in her eyes, she also had public figures and celebrities frequent her place such as Rebbeca Malope a well known gospel singer.
She has indeed created “Something Out Of Nothing” and still continues to live up to the name of her business.
