Mandela Day – It’s coming!

On 18 July, the world will celebrate Mandela Day once again, and two youth from Mkhulu Combined School on the farm Goedehoop is calling on Middelburg Samaritans to assist them in making their school a catalyst for learning.

Mandela was known, amongst other noble traits, for his absolute faith in education as being the most powerful weapon one can use to change the world.

Two learners from the rural Mkhulu Combined, Nkosingiphi Khaba (18) en Bonginkosi Msiza (16), wants to spruce up their dull school with colour and they’re asking paint, window panels with handles, and door handles for their school.

The school is quite big with 817 learners.

Many of these learners are not only hungry to learn but can also welcome a meal.

Nelson Mandela is gone but not forgotten and in these two youths, a fire is burning around which Madiba would have danced with joy.

“We simply want our school to be a better looking environment and education to flourish,” a sentiment echoed by the mayor at another fixer-upper in Nasaret on Monday where he hailed Ferrochrome’s efforts in investing where it is most needed.

Mandela-day is the perfect opportunity to not disappoint Nkosingiphi and Bonginkosi and many others like them.

The little children of Krienkie Krankie shuddered with fear every time the wind made the prefab walls rattle, but now they can look forward to a brand new school, thanks to Ferrochrome who like many other local companies such as Twizza and Shanduka, are yet to announce what they’ll be doing on Mandela Day.

Those interested to assist the teens to lead their school to better days, can contact Bonginkosi on 073 122 2421 – “We don’t want money, just the basics to make a school our school”.
