Fireworks at Germiston Stadium

Residents curious about fireworks at the Germiston Stadium.

Residents near the Germiston Stadium were amazed to hear and see fireworks at the stadium yesterday, October 6.

This came as a surprise as they had no idea why there were fireworks.

The fireworks were among the activities that took place at the opening ceremony of the Transnet Rural and Farm Schools Tournament.

A GCN journalist was present at the ceremony and confirmed that the fireworks were a celebration of the official opening of the tournament.

The tournament is scheduled to take place until Wednesday, October 8.

The GCN is awaiting comment from the metro and the organisers of the event as to why residents in the area were not informed beforehand.

  1. I must be honest… as beautiful as it is to watch the fireworks, we were very disappointed as to why we had not been informed that there would be fireworks taking place. We have 2 very scared dogs who we have to tranquilize when there are fireworks on special occasions such as New Years and Diwali. As we had not idea this would be taking place last night, our poor dogs were petrified and even though we kept them inside with us the female scratched so much at the door that she landed up bleeding from her one nail. I feel that the organizers could have at least put out a notice in advance so that residents can arrange accordingly.
