Scholar dies after being knocked down
Child airlifted to hospital after accident outside school gates dies.
A scholar, aged about 15, has died after being knocked down by the driver of a vehicle this morning.
The incident happened right in front of the Elsburg High School gates, at the corner of Guthrie Road and Brug Street, Elsburg, at 6.30am.
Upon arrival of the Ekurhuleni Emergency Services, the boy was diagnosed with severe head injuries and possible chest fractures, by the paramedics on the scene, so it was decided to airlift him.
“The helicopter had to be landed on the school sports grounds for the patient to be transported,” said William Ntladi, media liaison officer for the Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services.
“He was airlifted to Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital in a critical condition.”
He later died of his injuries.
The incident was handed over to the EMPD and SAPS for further investigation.

This is totally out of control, we cannot be losing our precious children this way, what is this the 4th child in 3 weeks its unacceptable, something has to be done to avoid future accidents…my condolences to the boys parents, family and friends, may they find comfort knowing he has gone to a better place, and that they will one day meet again, may his soul RIP

I was 17 and the news paper say he been hit by a vechicel someone say by a bus then the vechicel what is true ?
This very sad and condolances to his Family and friends , what is even worse is that Germiston city news is very quick to capitilize on these kind of story’s cause it sells news papers,I have personally taken video footage from my cammera’s covering the street and what is going on when school kids arrive at school and leave in the afternoon to the Edditor of Germiston city News and I have lotts of footage.In one instance 11 yes 11 school kids were piled into a ford fiesta 2 door car with the driver and another passenger so 13 in total ,and were driven away from the school , probally to an aftercare or a lift club of some sort. That was a year ago and nothing has been done about it.It is only a matter of time befor a serios accident occurs befor the News papers will gladly cover it.

First of all i just want to thank every one for their prairs for my nephew and sekond he was hit by a car that a wreckolas woman driver came around the bus and came at him at +-75KM/H and he was scanned for brain activity and they came to that CHRIS had no brain activity at all so he was declared brain dead and he °̩s going into a operation tomorrow at 04H00 for a organ transplant he °̩s giving all his organs to save 4 children lives SO my nephew CHRISTIAAN THEUNISSEN °̩s my hero

It is very sad what has happened and there is no excuse for an accident like this to happen, but I must say that as a driver the amount of jay walking in general on the roads is horrific. more respect on the roads is required whether walking or driving

The boy that was run down was my son. To anonomous he was not jaywalking. He was crossing at the pedestrian crossing and there was one vehicle that already stopped for him to cross when this lady passed the stationary vehicle and knocked him down. I was not implying that your son was jaywalking. I’m just saying that both motorists and pedestrians must respect the roads. Again so sorry for your loss.
My deepest condolences to the Family of Christian. This is a senseless death of a young man who had so much promise. To all Christians friends and school peers i want to say this: I have been reading your comments and feel and share your deep lose and pain. But…. at 17 i would expect so much more from you all. I am in total shock at the grammar and spelling of these learners. With that said… I am sure that the driver is going through so much pain right now. It is so easy to Blame, Name and shame when one is angry. Do you think that this Lady decided that today was a good day to go out in her car and on purpose with malice, hate and under a blanket of murderous hate drive over Christiaan?…. This is why we call it a accident!…. I am from Germiston. My playground as a child was Elsburg so i know the area well. I would like to know where the Scholar Patrol was? Surely a School on a main road has a Scholar Patrol! The Primary School up the road has a Lady Traffic Officer that insures the safety of the scholars that cross the road there. So where is the Traffic Officer to help at the High School? Collen Mann Primary has control at there crossings! Years ago when i was in school i was part of the Scholar Patrol, a necessary institution where ever scholars gather. Don’t for one minute think that this incident is isolated. Since 1994 our country has been dragged down hill by the mindless government and its lax attitude to just about everything from education, right through to Basic human rights. I know the schools are getting less and less funding and things like a Scholar Patrol can not fit into the budget. This is not a platform for my political views nor do i want you all to think that this is my aim. All i wanted to do is highlight the real reason for this tragedy. So before you mindlessly condemn a woman to death or sentence her to life in prison.Do not Pass judgement without stepping back and looking at the whole situation. Firstly educate yourselves! So that you can make the correct judgment calls, ask the right questions and question everything! Challenge yourselves to be better and do better. Challenge the world around you and push for what will secure your safety as scholars not only outside of the school but inside as well! Challenge your school and parents to get more involved and to take the blinkers off. Don’t be satisfied with the minimum requirements! Push for more, want more and make this country great not just OK! Because ok and the minimum requirements is what has lead to Christiaan’s untimely death. I agree this child was not so innocent as everybody wants is to make it out. These teenagers of today think the road belongs to them the traffic department must step in and see that the road rules for pedestrians is followed with people crossing the roads on foot or walk in the streets and consentrate less on car users. Pedestriens do not pay toll fees they do not keep our roads up to standard. SO PEDESTRIANS BE CAUSIOSES YOU ARE GOING TO BE KILLED

Condolences to the family of this young boy, who had his whole life ahead of him, that had that taken away in an instance, by a stupid mistake. Ppl are quick to judge the kids of today, the drivers are supposed to abide by the road rules aswell, and keep ther eyes on the road, you are not supposed to be speeding in front of a school in any case. I did not know christiaan that well but he was in my school and he was alway smiling and for that i will alway remember him as that friendly person… I dont know how that woman will live with herself se took away a live she took away a loved one hope se gets what comes to her…. Our condolences to the family and friends of Christiaan. As for everyone passing judgement on the lady driver, none of you has an idea what she must be going through it’s a terrible accident both ways. Parents lost a dear child and a lady is probably deeply affected as well. Everyone has feelings so respect their feelings on either side. Whether she was speeding or not or whether the boy was negligent and didn’t look is up to the authority to investigate and decide which is what they are there for.
Our deepest condolences to Pieter and Hester. My boys played rugby at school with Christiaans brothers. Christiaan was a boy with a beautiful personality. To the two brothers and sister, for you it is also a very difficult time. I can only pray that you have the strength for this very difficult time.

Personally I wish they would show us a photo of the driver so when we are in the shops we can stare and point and remind her that her ruthless, ignorant driving let to an innocent persons death. It could all have been avoided if she only took the time to comply with the road rules.

Dear Nameless user. What right do u have to blame this child. I knew this child personally. And he had better manners then u will ever have. U most probably got ur licence at PEP. There is a law that state if u drive infront of a school or any other area u have to stop at every zebra crossing. Even if there is no stop sign. I drive that road every morning. And I have seen plenty “toll road” users speed down there and not stopping at the stop street. If that lady used the rules that she had to learn when she got her learners she would know that. I got 3 kids of my own and believe me I would freak out and make sure that woman gets the death penalty. Yes I do understand that she didn’t plan to kill someone.
