Warning: Graphic image: Dog euthanased after being severely beaten

SPCA to investigate case of animal cruelty after severe beating leads to dog's death.

Officials from the Germiston SPCA were greeted by a traumatic sight, last Tuesday, when they responded to a call of animal cruelty in Rondebult.

After business hours, staff received a call from the complainant, who reported that one of their neighbours had beaten a dog using a metal pipe.

Inspector Hope Mokalapa raced to the area to conduct an investigation and found the extremely injured dog.

“Apparently the owner of the dog did not see the incident happen, but the neighbourhood children witnessed everything,” said Laurence Kingston, manager of the Germiston SPCA.

“The badly injured dog was immediately taken to the North Rand Animal Hospital in Boksburg for treatment.

“But, due to the extreme trauma and nature of the injuries, the animal had to be euthanased.”

The Germiston and Bedfordview SPCA is currently investigating the matter and obtaining statements from witnesses.

A case of animal cruelty will soon be opened, once all the relevant details and statements have been obtained, as well as a report from the attending veterinarian.

“We, as the SPCA, will charge any perpetrators of cruelty to animals under the Animals Protection Act No 71 of 1962,” Kingston said.

The community and general public can contact the SPCA on 011 825-5033 (during office hours), on the emergency cellphone on 082 675 0072 (after hours), or email to spcagermist@polka.co.za to report any cases of animal cruelty or abuse.

“Please provide as much detail as possible and you may remain anonymous,” said Kingston.

“It is only through the community and public intervention, involvement and pro-activeness like this incident demonstrates that we at the SPCA will continue to remain the protectors of all animals.”

This terribly abused dog, confiscated in Rondebult by the Germiston SPCA, last Tuesday, had to be euthanased due to its injuries.

  2. How can anyone be so cruel to animals?????????? I truly believe any person that can hurt any living creature of God like this, cannot have a heart or feelings! You can’t give life, therefor don’t have the right to take it away!!! This is extremely sad!! It isn’t even my dog and I am heartbroken!!! Hope the guilty one will get the punishment they deserve!

  3. Fot what the owner have done to this poor animal may you ge punished hst have this animal done to et treated like this you make me sick may I please beat you like you have done

  4. I am so speechless, how can someone be so heartless. What did the dog do to you, trust and love you. You need to be locked up and the same done to you. I am so disgusted and sick to my stomach just imagining what went through the doggies head, he trusted you, he loved you.

  5. I am speechless. I don’t have words to describe what I am feeling inside. God created animals to be our friends. What kind of person can be so brutal!! Animals are innocent creatures and cannot defend themselves against humans. This person who did this cannot have a heart in his/her body. They must give people like that to the community to deal with. That person must also be beaten with a metal pipe like this poor helpless animal. I cannot think WHAT this animal did to deserve that kind of treatment. Shame, what went through this poor dogs mind while being beaten up like this? I am crying inside!!

  6. When one sees something as heart breaking as this you don’t know what to think of the person involved. How can a “normal” human being do something like this? Is this person not normal in any way? No normal person can be so cruel as to beat up a harmless animal to this state!! It break my heart, these animals are put on earth as man’s best friend – not man’s machine to take your frustration out on. This “abnormal person” should be but in the same situation as this dog was and let’s see what reaction will come from this, see if this person will enjoy being beaten up WITH A STEEL PIPE. I really hope you rot in hell you piece of s***………………………………………

  7. I can probably tell you how this happened. If you don’t train your dogs from puppies, they can be very hyper or disobedient. The dog probably did something to really incense the owner, who was probably drinking and gatvol, and beat the dog. My own big puppy is very naughty and chews everything in sight and has cost us thousands. But we smack it, not beat it. He needs urgent training. But this picture is heartbreaking. I hope whoever did it is never able to own another pet in his life and goes to jail.
