The suspects were granted bail and the case was struck off the court roll and sent back to the police pending post-mortem and DNA results.

Police have received the post-mortem results from the state pathologists, the results will determine the cause of Mr Shabalala’s death.

They are currently waiting for the DNA results before they can return the docket to the senior prosecutor for a decision.

The suspects are facing charges of murder, while Bhekinkosi Simeon Thabethe will face an additional charge of defeating the ends of justice.

Co-accused Sbusiso Thabethe is no stranger to controversy, in 2014 the self-proclaimed Sangoma fooled police into believing that he had drowned, spurring a massive search and rescue operation.

He was arrested for attempted murder, kidnapping and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, but was only charged for having an unlicensed firearm.
