The Middelburg Observer<\/i> has been supplied with a photo of a guard sleeping on duty, allegedly because he was drinking the night before.<\/p>\n
The photo, allegedly taken from a WhatsApp profile of a guard who works at Paxton, shows him in uniform sleeping on his arms.<\/p>\n
His status update reads \u201cSlpng on duty…maphuza thursday wonke lawa \u201d(sic) loosely translated to \u2018Sleeping on duty … drinking on Thursday and all that\u2019.<\/p>\n
Two dangerous criminals, Mduduzi Nkosi and Linda Michael Cele recently escaped from Paxton.<\/p>\n
Nkosi has been sentenced to two life imprisonment terms for murder, attempted murder and rape. Cele, together with co-accused Sibusiso Nicholas Ngcane (33), were sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for robbery in July.<\/p>\n
Both Cele and Ngcane escaped shortly after being sentenced in Middelburg by jumping over a wall whilst being transferred from the court holding cells to a truck to be transported back to prison.<\/p>\n
They were recaptured in Shoshanguve in October.<\/p>\n
Ngcane did not participate in the second escape from Paxton.<\/p>\n
This was Nkosi\u2019s fifth escape from custody. He has since been recaptured in Klarinet in eMalahleni. Cele is still on the loose.<\/p>\n
\u2022 The Department of Correctional Services is currently investigating the matter and has promised feedback as soon as the investigation is complete.<\/p>\n
