Ismail Essa, regional manager for SANRAL\u2019s Northern Region (Limpopo, Gauteng, North West and Mpumalanga provinces) says there are no major road works undertaken on the artery that runs from Gauteng, through Mpumalanga to the Mozambican border. The road is in good condition but motorists should take care, especially when they are driving during the typical Highveld thunder storms.<\/p>\n
Traffic volumes are expected to pick up on the stretch between Machadodorp and Nelspruit, especially on 22 December prior to the Christmas weekend. Past traffic patterns have shown that the Machado Traffic Control Centre will experience extreme traffic volumes on New Year\u2019s Day.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
SANRAL calls on road users to follow important safety tips when they take to the country\u2019s main roads during the holiday period. \u201cThe main message is to remember that a road is a shared space and that you should be respectful towards your fellow road users.\u201d<\/p>\n
Speed limits are clearly indicated on the 21 946 km of roads managed by SANRAL in all nine provinces. \u201cThese are maximum limits and drivers should adjust their speed according to conditions such as rain or visibility,\u201d says Essa.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Road users are encouraged to take a break during long distance journeys to prevent fatigue and lack of concentration.<\/p>\n
