A case has been opened at the Mhluzi Police Station and a court date is yet to be determined so that he may be formally charged.<\/p>\n
According to one complainant, Nomthandazo Ngubeni, the councillor obtained hundreds of signatures on 3 August during the municipal elections outside a voting station at Reatlegile Primary School.<\/p>\n
He allegedly told voters to sign a document under the pretense that it was related to confirming registered voters had participated in the elections.<\/p>\n
But instead, these signatures were collected and submitted as part of an objection for the allocation of a piece of land – which has shocked residents in Mathaileng and Plein in Mhluzi, who only came to learn about it last week.<\/p>\n
Mhluzi SAPS spokesperson Nelisiwe Masemola confirmed that a case of fraud has been opened by a resident of Mathaileng and that the accused is expected to be formally charged within the next few days. The councillor cannot be named until the appearance.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe police told me this week that they are still investigating the matter and that the councillor is yet to be charged,\u201d Nomthandazo said. She is one of three complainants in the case.<\/p>\n
