Security guards at the Emergency Medical Services as well as the Medicine Dispensary in Middelburg, have been left without jobs after a three year contract with Hotline Security, ended on 30 March.<\/p>\n
Guards at the provincial ambulance offices were told to wait for the new security company to take over to see if they can salvage their jobs.<\/p>\n
But a new company never came.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have been waiting here for four days. We are too scared to go home because we might miss the new company when they come. We are afraid that we will come here and find that we have lost our jobs,\u201d one of the guards said. They spoke to www.mobserver.co.za on condition that they cannot be named out of fear that it might jeopardize their chances with the new company.<\/p>\n
Whilst clinging to the hope that someone will arrive and tell them that they can continue as normal, they cannot help but ignore the faint suspicion that something is amiss.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think they are trying to get rid of us,\u201d a woman speculates.<\/p>\n
They say that the Provincial Traffic offices across the road has been taken over by a new security company. When they enquired, they were told that guarding EMS was not part of their contract.<\/p>\n
New guards are also stationed at the Provincial Hospital.<\/p>\n
\u201cSomething is very wrong. We hope that they do not try and bring in strangers. The people who know this place is us.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u2022 Isac Raseomane of Hotline Security said that they obtained the contract via a tender. He said that the guards all knew that their contract was coming to an end and that Hotline cannot afford to employ them without the contract because they do not have other sites to deploy them to.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
