The competition is aimed at ensuring that by 2020, the amount of packaging collected and recycled through national schemes and our own initiatives exceed the amount of packaging we use.

CCSB is pleased with the programme, in part because of its cumulative impact as a result of year-on-year improvement and its ability to generate income for the no fee schools through recyclable material.

“The aim for this year’s competition is increasing awareness on reducing, re-using and recycling, beyond the competition.” said CCSB Communications Manager Ms Taz Phaswana.

The Steve Tshwete Municipality Mayor attended the launch at Reatlegile Primary School and committed full support to the project:

“We are one of the most clean municipalities in South Africa and it’s initiatives like these that help us to drive the point home as it involves young learners, as the municipality we are behind this project 100%.” said the Executive Mayor Mike Masina.

This exciting competition will run from the 11th of August to the 3rd of October 2014.

Schools participating supported by local shops are: Mvuzo Primary School, Reatlegile Primary School, Zikhupule. Primary School. The schools and local shops serve as collection points where the community can drop off the recyclable material. Schools

will be rewarded for the recycled material which they collect, by a local buy-back centre; Silver Ink, which buys recyclable materials from the public. In addition to this, schools will receive prizes to the value of:
