This makes having the necessary arsenal to solve tough home improvement problems \u2013 or in some cases turn your paint disaster into a DIY showpiece \u2013 a fundamental requirement before tackling the task at hand.<\/p>\n
Knowledge is power and can be the difference between finishing a project on time and on budget, or not at all. We asked Prominent Paints for their advice on dealing with peeling paint, particularly in a bathroom.<\/p>\n
As a room where surfaces are exposed to constant moisture and humidity, peeling and bubbling paint in a bathroom is a common problem. Insufficient ventilation to rid a bathroom of excess humidity causes a situation where fungal growth is provided with the perfect environment, and peeling paint on ceiling and walls will soon follow.<\/p>\n
YOU WILL NEED:<\/p>\n
Drop cloths
\n120- and 180-grit sandpaper
\n1L of ProGold Fungal Wash
\nLarge sponge to apply the fungal wash
\nNylon scrubbing brushes and cloths
\nInterior crack filler
\nProminent Plaster Primer
\nAcrylic sealant and caulking gun
\nMasking tape
\nChoice of Prominent acrylic or non-drip enamel paint<\/p>\n
TOOLS:<\/p>\n
Paint scraper
\nStepladder
\nBuckets
\nPaintbrushes and paint roller
\nRubber gloves and protective eyewear<\/p>\n
HERE’S HOW:<\/p>\n
\u2022 Correct the airflow of the bathroom by installing a built-in extractor fan.<\/p>\n
\u2022 If fungal growth is visible on the walls or ceiling, remove all the loose and flaking paint from the surface.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Treat with Prominent ProGold Fungal Wash and allow reaction on the surface for 3 hours before rinsing with clean water.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Use interior crack filler to fill cracks and allow filler to dry. Sand smooth before applying plaster primer.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Seal the gaps between the newly primed cornices and the walls with paintable acrylic sealant.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Finish the walls and ceiling with your choice of Prominent Ultra Matt,Sheen or Prominent Non Drip Enamel. Note that only water-based paints can be applied to polystyrene cornices.<\/p>\n
