{"id":99365,"date":"2015-09-09T10:13:54","date_gmt":"2015-09-09T08:13:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/?p=99365"},"modified":"2015-09-09T10:13:54","modified_gmt":"2015-09-09T08:13:54","slug":"early-detection-can-save-your-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/lifestyle-news\/2015\/09\/09\/early-detection-can-save-your-life\/","title":{"rendered":"Early detection can save your life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The day is all about empowering people to lift the veil on gynaecological issues by celebrating the beauty that is a woman\u2019s femininity.<br \/>\nThis day is the brainchild of Kath Mazzella, a vulval cancer survivor.<br \/>\nKath\u2019s vision is to see the day celebrated around the globe, bringing \u201cbelow the belt\u201d issues out into an open forum where women and men everywhere may be healed, supported and uplifted.<br \/>\nBy going for regular pap smears women can prevent or detect cervical cancer early.<br \/>\nThe cervix is the lower part of the uterus and it is one of the most common cancers among South African women. It is curable if detected and treated in the early stages.<br \/>\nRegular pap smears can detect abnormal cells in the cervix that could develop into cervical cancer. Although this test is uncomfortable, it is relatively painless.<br \/>\nWomen can lower their risk of getting cancer by being aware of the importance of early detection.
