{"id":98758,"date":"2015-09-04T08:40:00","date_gmt":"2015-09-04T06:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/98758\/donate-blood-today-and-save-lives\/"},"modified":"2015-09-04T09:18:10","modified_gmt":"2015-09-04T07:18:10","slug":"donate-blood-today-and-save-lives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2015\/09\/04\/donate-blood-today-and-save-lives\/","title":{"rendered":"Donate blood today and save lives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Longer and warmer days, a floral fragrance in the air and open windows bringing in the delicious aroma of a braai on the go.<\/p>\n<p>For many, these are the impressions of spring ushered in by September.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>It is also the month when South Africans come together to acknowledge the unifying heritage and the many joys of living in a diverse country.<\/p>\n<p>As you don your traditional garb to mark Heritage Day on September 24, the South African National Blood Service calls on you to celebrate another thing we have in common \u2013 our nation\u2019s blood.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Together, SANBS and its loyal donors aim to collect 3 000 units of life-saving blood each day in order to give life to mothers in labour, accident victims, cancer survivors and thousands of others in need blood transfusions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a remarkable notion that this precious fluid that runs through my veins could be exactly what you might need,\u201d said SANBS communications manager Vanessa Raju.<\/p>\n<p>Raju explained that even though seasons change during the year, the demand for blood and its various products remains a priority throughout.
