Twelve people were injured this morning after a taxi collided with a barrier and rolled on the N3 highway, near the Gillooly\u2019s interchange.<\/p>\n
ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene to find the wrecked vehicle lying on its side near the barrier.<\/p>
Occupants from the vehicle were found lying in two lanes of the road.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn assessment, paramedics discovered that 12 people were injured in the collision, one of them critically,\u201d said Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesman.<\/p>
\u201cParamedics immediately began their treatment of the patients while metro services began closing off some of the lanes of the highway.<\/p>\n
\u201cTreatment and advanced life support interventions were performed on the critically injured taxi driver to stabilise his vital signs.<\/p>\n
\u201cOnce treated, the patient was airlifted by the ER24 helicopter to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.\u201d<\/p>\n
The remaining patients on scene were treated for their injuries and thereafter transported to nearby facilities for further care.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations,\u201dMeiring said.<\/p>\n
