Picnics, kite-flying, running and playing children and peaceful family outings are what the residents of Sunnyridge feel the park located in Seventh Avenue should be used for.<\/p>\n

Instead, they claim, the metro has allowed the park to fall into ruin.<\/p>

Staff members from local school, Abundant Life Christian Academy, also located in Seventh Avenue explained to a GCN journalist who visited the park that they have approached the metro in the hope that they can rent the facilities for sporting events.<\/p>\n

Abundant Life Christian Academy is not the only school using the park, Laerskool Oosterkruin and Daeraad Pre-Primary School are also reported to bring their students to the tennis courts, for sporting activities.<\/p>

These tennis courts, however, have fallen into disrepair.<\/p>\n

Other concerns raised by residents in the area included the amount of litter in the park (which includes needles, alcohol bottles and used condoms), cars and quads using the park as a rally track, people sleeping, drinking and even living in the park and harassing children who wish to play there, and the disruption and displacement of the animals who live and breed there.<\/p>\n

Residents have contacted the councillor for Ward 21, Tania Campbell, in the hope that she can assist.<\/p>\n

Campbell encouraged them to draw-up a petition that could be presented to the metro.<\/p>\n

The GCN sent a query to the metro to find out if and when the park will be refurbished and how the schools in the area can rent the facilities, along with the other issues brought forward by the Sunnyridge residents.<\/p>\n

At the time of going to the press no comment had been received from the metro or the ward councillor.<\/p>\n
