A resident of Rheims Street, in Delville, awakened to find her power had been disconnected in the early hours of the morning, on June 5.<\/p>\n
She called the metro, but was upset by the lack of interest shown by the call taking centre.<\/p>
The GCN sent an enquiry the metro to find out why the power was cut at such a strange time and when it would be restored?<\/p>\n
Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the metro, responded with the following answer:<\/p>
\u201cThe client’s account was identified as being in arrears and disconnection was executed upon an instruction to the contractor on May 21.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe client came through and paid the required amount.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe reconnection was confirmed as successful on May 28, and the applicable fee levied.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe client did confirm with our contractor that the lights were, at this point in time, indeed reconnected,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe alleged disconnection of electricity to the property on June 5 was in no way a result of any arrears on the account nor was it issued by the metro.\u201d<\/p>\n
After confirming that the matter was not a result of an account problem it was reported to the energy department.<\/p>\n
\u201cAccording to the client, the electricity was disconnected at 4am; this is not common practice,, as our contractor does not disconnect at this time,\u201d continued Gadebe.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo instruction was issued by the metro to disconnect the property on June 5.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe improper manner in which the cable was disconnected suggests that it may have been the result of an attempted housebreaking.\u201d<\/p>\n
The power has since been restored.<\/p>\n
