{"id":93618,"date":"2015-07-09T08:15:00","date_gmt":"2015-07-09T06:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/93618\/lack-of-responsibility-shown-by-transport-department-says-da\/"},"modified":"2015-07-09T08:58:29","modified_gmt":"2015-07-09T06:58:29","slug":"lack-of-responsibility-shown-by-transport-department-says-da","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2015\/07\/09\/lack-of-responsibility-shown-by-transport-department-says-da\/","title":{"rendered":"Lack of responsibility shown by transport department \u2013 says DA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The DA in Ekurhuleni has shared its disgust and dissatisfaction with the metro\u2019s roads and transport department.<\/p>\n<p>The DA states that the following are examples of the poor management:<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Failure to appoint repair and maintenance contractors for over two years, for many areas in Ekurhuleni.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Failure to perform in terms of a metro tribunal ruling to proceed with the Eastleigh Spruit flood relief project.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Failure to start a flood relief project for the Central Road bridge, which was approved in October 2013.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Failed tender and award processes, plus inability of the recipients of the awards to perform.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Failure to appoint and\/or renew supplier contracts timeously for tar and diesel, affecting the department\u2019s ability to function.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Failure to do oversight on projects where many have come to a standstill due to cost over-runs.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Failure by contractors to pay their sub-contractors, bringing work to a standstill.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Failure by the department to spend grants and maintenance budgets.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Failure to appoint cleaning contractors for the taxi ranks in the metro, resulting in filthy and unkempt commuter facilities.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Failure to address the spiraling of unofficial taxi ranks, which are being established everywhere due to the poor planning and oversight by the metro.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Clr Bill Rundle, the DA shadow MMC for roads and transport, said: \u201cI am sick and tired of quoting statistics, referring to specific events and making excuses for the lack of response by inept service delivery from the department.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The DA has highlighted incidents of poor management which it deems to be negligence and recklessness in this department.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWhy was there no response or corrective interventions taken to address the myriad of problems that plagued this oversight?
