International Nurses\u2019 Day is celebrated annually on May 12.<\/p>\n

The day honours nurses around the world for their selfless dedication to the needs of their patients.<\/p>

This year, Life Healthcare took the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate over 9 000 nurses employed by the group.<\/p>\n

The theme chosen this year by, the group, was \u201cCompassion in Nursing\u201d, which aligns to the company\u2019s core values of performance, pride and passion for people.<\/p>

The Life Roseacres Clinic, in Primrose, joined in the celebration by hosting a special presentation for its nurses, with messages of encouragement and praise from the management.<\/p>\n

\u201cNurses are the heart of healthcare and the very core of the Life Healthcare Group,\u201d said Andr\u00e9 Meyer, CEO of Life Healthcare.<\/p>\n

\u201cNursing is a profession of compassion and caring, and is also linked to a scientific background; it is a dedicated service to the sick during their time of need,\u201d said Dr Sharon Vasuthevan, group nursing executive at Life Healthcare.<\/p>\n

At the celebration of their nurses, last Tuesday, Mathews Moavodi, the hospital manager of Life Roseacres Clinic, said: \u201cI hope I stand before nurses who became nurses for the passion.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sophie Sibisi, the nursing manager of Life Roseacres Clinic, led the attending nurses in retaking their Nurse’s Pledge.<\/p>\n

This was followed by a small prize-giving; the clinic had four nominees and one winner in the Great 100 Nurses Awards.<\/p>\n

These awards honour 100 of the top nurses, who have made a significant difference to the profession of nursing and in the lives of patients, peers, students and the community at large.<\/p>\n

Nominees are judged on professionalism, compassionate care-giving, clinical competence and leadership qualities.<\/p>\n

The 100 top great nurses will be nursing ambassadors for Life Healthcare and the nursing profession at large.<\/p>\n

Nominees were: Lyneen Botha, Linda Zigode, Phumie Magadulelea and Nosipho Motha, with Cynthia Madondo being named as one of the Great 100 Nurses of 2015.<\/p>\n

Odet Tshiunga received the Discovery Quality Award, which is given to the nurse voted as the best by the hospital\u2019s patients.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn International Nurses\u2019 Day it gives me great pleasure to pay tribute to our top-class nursing team, who strive for excellence,\u201d said Vasuthevan.<\/p>\n
