International Nurses\u2019 Day is celebrated annually on May 12.The day gives Life Healthcare the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate over 9 000 nurses employed by the group.<\/p>\n
Germiston\u2019s Life Roseacres Clinic will be celebrating its nurses in a special ceremony on Tuesday, May 12, at the hospital.<\/p>
The theme chosen this year by, the group, is \u201cCompassion in Nursing\u201d, which aligns to the company\u2019s core values of performance, pride and passion for people.<\/p>\n
\u201cNurses are the heart of healthcare and the very core of the Life Healthcare Group,\u201d said Andr\u00e9 Meyer, CEO of Life Healthcare.<\/p>
\u201cWe offer world class medical facilities and equipment, and our doctors and specialists provide the medical expertise necessary to treat patients and perform complex procedures.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, it is our nurses who routinely dispense the comfort, compassion, and care that makes all the difference to our patients\u2019 recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n
Life Healthcare will be paying tribute to 100 nurses who have been chosen by their peers for epitomising quality and compassion in their daily work.<\/p>\n
\u201cNursing is a profession of compassion and caring, and also linked to a scientific background.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is a dedicated service to the sick during their time of need,\u201d said Dr Sharon Vasuthevan, group nursing executive at Life Healthcare.<\/p>\n
\u201cCompassion is central to nursing care and has become underutilised due to various developments in technology, administration and management.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe one thing that patients should be able to rely on when they are in our care, is the compassionate connectedness that will bridge the clinical, operation, cultural and behavioural aspects of the patient experience.<\/p>\n
\u201cInternational Nurses\u2019 Day serves to remind us, as nurses, to re-establish our support for each other in the clinical area.\u201d<\/p>\n

To ensure a steady supply of well-trained nursing staff at a time when our country is experiencing shortages of this crucial skill set, Life Healthcare has invested heavily in the training of aspirant nurses through its nationally accredited Life College of Learning which was established in 1998.<\/p>\n
The college trains both basic and post-basic nurses and has recruited over 100 nurses from India to alleviate the local shortage.<\/p>\n
