{"id":88155,"date":"2015-04-29T10:57:50","date_gmt":"2015-04-29T08:57:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/?p=88155"},"modified":"2015-04-29T10:57:50","modified_gmt":"2015-04-29T08:57:50","slug":"eskoms-maintenance-drive-a-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2015\/04\/29\/eskoms-maintenance-drive-a-success\/","title":{"rendered":"Eskom\u2019s maintenance drive a success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Eskom has successfully performed the first part of its planned maintenance drive without load shedding since Friday, April 24.<\/p>\n<p>Plans are in place to continue with the drive this coming weekend.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;Eskom\u2019s maintenance teams worked hard over the long-weekend and were able to perform planned maintenance on 2 303 MW of generating plant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey further, also returned 1 643 MW of generating capacity back to service over this period.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe focus of the maintenance festival is to ensure long-term reliability of the plant as well as restore units that are currently offline due to technical faults,&#8221; said Eskom\u2019s acting Chief Executive Brian Molefe.<\/p>\n<p>The generating units that were taken out for scheduled maintenance include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Komati Unit Four (91 MW);<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Ankerlig Unit 41 (147 MW);<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Kriel Unit Five (475 MW);<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Kendal Unit One (640 MW);<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Camden Unit Two (190 MW);<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Camden Unit Three (185 MW);<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Matla Unit Four (575 MW).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The units that have been returned back online are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Komati Unit Four (91 MW);<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Camden Unit Two (190 MW);<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Ankerlig Unit 41 (147 MW);<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Kendal Unit One (640 MW);<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Matla Unit Four (575 MW).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The power system continues to remain significantly constrained and will be so for the rest of this week.<\/p>\n<p>We are currently not load shedding, but the power system remains tight all day, particularly during this evening\u2019s peak period between 5pm and 9pm as the power system demand profile moves towards a more typical winter profile.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We would like to thank all electricity users for responding to our message to save. Every little bit of saving counts in reducing the need to implement load shedding,&#8221; added Molefe.<\/p>\n<p>Eskom calls on all customers to continue reducing the load on the electricity grid by switching off geysers, air conditioners, pool pumps and all non-essential appliances throughout the day, which will reduce electricity demand.
