{"id":84850,"date":"2015-04-04T08:15:00","date_gmt":"2015-04-04T06:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/84850\/over-r200-m-to-be-spent-on-water-infrastructure\/"},"modified":"2015-04-02T09:56:26","modified_gmt":"2015-04-02T07:56:26","slug":"over-r200-m-to-be-spent-on-water-infrastructure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2015\/04\/04\/over-r200-m-to-be-spent-on-water-infrastructure\/","title":{"rendered":"Over R200-m to be spent on water infrastructure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The metro hopes to halt water supply interruptions with the implementation of a water management plan, which will see the construction of ten water reservoirs and water towers.<\/p>\n<p>Over R200-million will be spent on the infrastructure, with the date of completion set for 2021.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>This comes after water supply woes experienced in Gauteng last year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One component in the plan is the exploration of an early warning system, which would be used to indicate dropping water levels in Ekurhuleni&#8217;s storage reservoirs and allow for speedy intervention,&#8221; said Ekurhuleni spokesperson Themba Gedebe.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;This will be achieved through a telemetric type system that will synchronise all reservoirs in Ekurhuleni, making it easy to divert water from one supply zone to another.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This process will also include the harmonisation of the metro\u2019s underground infrastructure, so that municipal potable water supply zones are aligned to enable to distribute potable water from one supply zone to another, where practically possible.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The metro is currently working on constructing two additional water reservoirs, in Palm Ridge and Etwatwa Extension 19, which are expected to be completed in the 2016\/2017 financial year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>These reservoirs form part of the plan:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a020Ml reservoir in Brakpan &#8211; worth an estimated R25-m.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a011Ml reservoir in Masetchaba View &#8211; worth an estimated R18-m.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a026Ml reservoir at Russel Road &#8211; worth an estimated R34-m.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a010Ml reservoir in Etwatwa &#8211; worth an estimated R20-m.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a01.1Ml water tower in Etwatwa &#8211; worth an estimated R10-m.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a05Ml water tower in Northmead &#8211; worth an estimated R32-m.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a013Ml reservoir in Dunottar &#8211;
