{"id":84792,"date":"2015-03-26T10:15:00","date_gmt":"2015-03-26T08:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/84792\/carnival-city-embraces-darkness-for-earth-hour-2015\/"},"modified":"2015-03-26T11:31:05","modified_gmt":"2015-03-26T09:31:05","slug":"carnival-city-embraces-darkness-for-earth-hour-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2015\/03\/26\/carnival-city-embraces-darkness-for-earth-hour-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Carnival City embraces darkness for Earth Hour 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Carnival City has pledged its support for Earth Hour 2015, committing to switch off lighting during the hour between 8.30pm and 9.30pm, this Saturday (March 28).<\/p>\n<p>Areas that will be in darkness for the hour include the clinic, the Masana offices, the maintenance workshop, the Carnival and Jesters\u2019 Bars, cashiering and staff rooms.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Solar lanterns will be lit in areas participating in this initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Other non-essential lights will also be turned off, and Carnival City employees are also being encouraged to join the company in pledging commitment to the environment by switching off the lights in their homes for an hour.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Earth Hour is a global awareness initiative arranged annually in March by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), to highlight the role of ordinary people in preserving the environment and the world\u2019s precious resources.<\/p>\n<p>It started in 2007, in Sydney, and within a year Earth Hour became a global sustainability movement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Earth\u2019s precious resources and our environment are under strain from the impact of our modern lifestyles,&#8221;
