{"id":79963,"date":"2015-02-04T08:25:00","date_gmt":"2015-02-04T06:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/79963\/metro-departments-need-to-use-assigned-budgets\/"},"modified":"2015-02-04T08:55:11","modified_gmt":"2015-02-04T06:55:11","slug":"metro-departments-need-to-use-assigned-budgets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2015\/02\/04\/metro-departments-need-to-use-assigned-budgets\/","title":{"rendered":"Metro departments need to use assigned budgets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The DA in the metro recently released a statement, in which they express their feelings towards the metro\u2019s continued failure to spend its meagre capital budget.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe metro routinely fails to allocate a large enough portion of the budget to capital expenditure and, when the little it does allocate is not spent, the consequences are visible for all to see: unusable roads, perpetual sewer overflow and uncontrollable water leaks and losses,\u201d said Ramesh Sheodin, a member of the finance oversight committee.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>In a speech delivered at the January council meeting Sheodin brought to the council\u2019s attention that, in the first half of the current financial year, less than 20 per cent of the capital budget was spent.<\/p>\n<p>This is almost half the figure at the same point last year, when only 33 per cent of the budget had been spent.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>The worst performing department is roads, which has spent only 8,9 per cent of its budget.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis explains why residents from Alberton to Kempton Park to Springs are crying foul over the state of the roads, and businesses which use trucks to transport goods are being negatively impacted,\u201d said Sheodin.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, residents are left to deal with the deteriorating roads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cResidents do not care if it is capital or operating budgets that are being poorly spent,&#8221;
