I moved to Germiston a few months ago and what a nightmare it is travelling home from Midrand on the N3 highway.<\/p>

On several occasions I have counted an average of 15 trucks, where one can see 1km ahead.<\/p>\n

These trucks are three to four car lengths long and that means 15 trucks take 45 to 60 car spaces, during peak time freeway traffic, per kilometre.<\/p>

Trucks travel in any lane of the highway and it’s no use to talk of fast lanes, because they don’t exist anymore, even in non-peak hours.<\/p>\n

Where are the signs along the freeways which said \u201cKeep left, Pass right\u201d?<\/p>\n

They have all disappeared.<\/p>\n

I have driven next to a truck transporting scrap metal during normal hours, on the uphill before the Germiston off-ramp.<\/p>\n

The truck was fully loaded, with a speed of 20km\/h in the second lane from the right.<\/p>\n

It would be wonderful to travel without trucks on our freeways during peak hours.<\/p>\n

This would probably mean 1 125 to 1 500 more car spaces on the N3 from the M1 to the Germiston off- ramp.<\/p>\n
