{"id":78458,"date":"2015-01-14T11:56:07","date_gmt":"2015-01-14T09:56:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/78458\/ramaphosa-lauds-gauteng-schools-future-project\/"},"modified":"2015-01-14T16:08:16","modified_gmt":"2015-01-14T14:08:16","slug":"ramaphosa-lauds-gauteng-schools-future-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2015\/01\/14\/ramaphosa-lauds-gauteng-schools-future-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Ramaphosa lauds Gauteng for \u2018Schools of the Future\u2019 project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As a symbol of blessings and new beginnings, rain showered on the fields of Tembisa school Boitumelong when Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa along with Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga, Premier of Gauteng David Makhura and MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi launched the \u2018Schools of the Future\u2019 project.<\/p>\n<p>Recognising the role of information communication technology has played in revolutionising the lives of many and how business is conducted, Ramaphosa said, \u201cThe economies of the 21st century are rapidly becoming knowledge based economies.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cTo thrive in the 21<sup>st<\/sup> century, we need to acquire new skills and be able to adapt to a rapidly-changing work environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recognising the shortage of e-skills in South Africa, the \u2018Big Switch On\u2019 project was seen as necessary step towards addressing how the country drifted down to 70<sup>th<\/sup> in a World Economic Forum report which indicated the country\u2019s global e-readiness.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Ramaphosa said, \u201cIt demonstrates an appreciation of the opportunity that information technology provides for more efficient distribution of learning material and as a tool for more effective teaching.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt enables educators and learners to access resources that exist beyond the walls of the classroom. Indeed, it enables them to access resources from the other side of the globe.
