The Germiston City News was able to confirm reports that a man has been killed in a vicious dog attack in the Primrose area this afternoon.<\/p>\n
The man was declared dead on scene due to the severity of the wounds he had sustained during the attack.<\/p>
It is reported that the incident took place at around 3pm this afternoon (Saturday), which was\u00a0confirmed by Emer-g-med personnel on scene.<\/p>\n
The man, believed to be a 45-year-old, was on the pavement outside Laerskool Oosterkruin in Wert Road, where he was employed as a groundskeeper, when three pitbulls escaped from a near-by home and attacked him.<\/p>
“A passerby saw what was happening and tried to assist,” said Sgt Styles Maome communications officer for the Primrose police.<\/p>\n
“However, the three dogs were too powerful and he also sustained a number of bites during his rescue attempt.”<\/p>\n
It is then reported that a passing off-duty policeman became involved.<\/p>\n
He fired a warning shot which lead to two of the pitbulls returning to their home while the third turned on the officer.<\/p>\n
The officer shot and killed the dog.<\/p>\n
The man’s body has been taken to the state mortuary, and the two remaining dogs were seized by the Germiston SPCA.<\/p>\n
An inquest into the incident has since been opened by the Primrose Police.<\/p>\n
