{"id":75651,"date":"2014-12-10T15:39:19","date_gmt":"2014-12-10T13:39:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/?p=75651"},"modified":"2014-12-10T09:35:58","modified_gmt":"2014-12-10T07:35:58","slug":"load-shedding-stay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2014\/12\/10\/load-shedding-stay\/","title":{"rendered":"Load shedding is here to stay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Eskom has once again said it is cautiously optimistic that it will be able to limit load shedding.<\/p>\n<p>The country has experienced load shedding for several weeks now due to limited generating capacity and ongoing problems at existing power plants.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Eskom\u2019s Andrew Etzinger said recently the power grid has been severely constrained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the moment, there is a high demand for electricity and that is due to the wet conditions in Gauteng.\u201d<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>But for now, he said there is no intention to implement load shedding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe power grid is stable at the moment so we don\u2019t expect load shedding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It has however, been reported that some unplanned outages were experienced around Johannesburg yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Diesel reserves are expected to run out towards the end of the week, meaning rolling blackouts still remain a possibility over the next few days.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, both the ANC and the DA called on Eskom to complete the Medupi and Kusile\u00a0 Power Stations as soon as possible to avoid further load shedding.<\/p>\n<p>Eskom Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tshediso Matona gave an extensive briefing about the state of the country&#8217;s power system.<\/p>\n<p>He explained what is to be expect over the next few weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The utility has assured customers that the country is far from a national blackout but has warned load shedding is likely to be a reality for the next few months.<\/p>\n<p>Matona emphasised that there&#8217;s no crisis.<\/p>\n<p>It has also been reported that Eskom said there will be a low risk of load shedding on Christmas Day.<\/p>\n<p>The utility is still responsible for virtually all of South Africa&#8217;s power supply.<\/p>\n<div class=\"stream-item stream-item-below-post-content\">\n<div class='tenancy_slot tenancy_slot_1 jannah_ad' style='display: none;' data-query-id='10cfb47ed5ce15d0d9cc952bbfe07342'><\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Country is far from a national blackout but load shedding is likely to be a reality for the next few months &#8211;
