{"id":74267,"date":"2014-11-23T17:42:31","date_gmt":"2014-11-23T15:42:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/74267\/eskom-declares-power-emergency\/"},"modified":"2014-11-23T19:06:02","modified_gmt":"2014-11-23T17:06:02","slug":"eskom-declares-power-emergency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2014\/11\/23\/eskom-declares-power-emergency\/","title":{"rendered":"Eskom declares power emergency"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fin24.com\">Fin24<\/a>, Eskom\u2019s declaration is on top of two days of rolling blackouts, and was caused by generators producing 1 700 MW of power at two plants tripping out.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Eskom has declared a power emergency with large industrial customers, requiring them to urgently reduce their electricity usage by 10 per cent from 15:00 to 20:00 today,&#8221; Fin24 quoted from a statement by Eskom.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;The declaration of a power emergency follows in addition to the implementation of stage two of load shedding earlier today [Sunday].&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Fin24 reported, \u201cThe power system experienced an increase in demand due to weather conditions and increased load losses as a result of multiple tripping of generating units at the Majuba and Matimba power stations.\u201d<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>The report suggests that Eskom is now following the protocol in terms of its emergency procedures in order to secure the power system.<\/p>\n<p>Due to loss of additional generating capacity, Eskom implemented stage two load shedding at noon on Sunday and this would continue until 22:00 on Sunday evening.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The risk of load shedding for tomorrow [Monday] and Tuesday is medium to low.
