{"id":72027,"date":"2014-10-31T09:15:00","date_gmt":"2014-10-31T07:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/72027\/residents-upset-over-pruning\/"},"modified":"2014-10-30T15:57:29","modified_gmt":"2014-10-30T13:57:29","slug":"residents-upset-over-pruning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2014\/10\/31\/residents-upset-over-pruning\/","title":{"rendered":"Residents upset over pruning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sandra Newton called the Germiston City News to report on how the metro are pruning the trees in Delville.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey have pruned them to such an extent that they are killing them, some are already dead,\u201d explained Newton.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>This is of great concern to Newton and many other residents in the area, as they revere the old oak trees.<\/p>\n<p>The GCN approached the metro for comment on this surprisingly upsetting situation.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Senior media officer Lebogang Ramashala, of the metro\u2019s department of communication and brand management, responded to the GCN\u2019s queries:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q:<\/strong> Why are these trees being cut?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A<\/strong>: The residents requested that the trees on their pavements be pruned, as they cause electricity to trip when they interfere with the overhead power cables.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q:<\/strong> Are the metro staff in charge of the pruning sure of what they are doing? Do they have experience in pruning?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A:<\/strong> Yes the staff in charge of the pruning are qualified and have experience.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q:<\/strong> Is the metro aware that they are killing the trees in the area?<\/p>\n<p><strong>A:<\/strong> They are not killing the trees, only maintaining them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Q:<\/strong> Can residents report matters such as these to the metro?
