{"id":70736,"date":"2014-10-15T08:55:00","date_gmt":"2014-10-15T06:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/70736\/by-law-blitz-in-cbd\/"},"modified":"2014-10-15T09:13:38","modified_gmt":"2014-10-15T07:13:38","slug":"by-law-blitz-in-cbd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2014\/10\/15\/by-law-blitz-in-cbd\/","title":{"rendered":"By-law blitz in CBD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Blatant contravention of by-laws in the Germiston CBD prompted the metro to crack down on the area on October 9.<\/p>\n<p>The operation, which ran from 9am to 1pm, involved the By-Laws Integrated Team (comprised of various representatives from metro departments), the SAPS, Home Affairs and officials from law firms versed in identifying counterfeit goods.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Ten huge bags of fake designer clothing and footwear were confiscated, 19 undocumented people were arrested and four men were nabbed for possession of dagga.<\/p>\n<p>Streets where furniture and goods are illegally displayed on pavements, obstructing pedestrians and generally offences causing an eyesore in the CBD, were targeted.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>The streets included High, Voortrekker, Lambert, Oosthuizen, Plantation, Park, Simpson, Simmer, Meyer, President, Spilsbury, Knox, Railway, Leipold, Library and Jack.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_70737\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-70737\" style=\"width: 423px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2014\/10\/42GCNCRIMEBYLAMH_626976149.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-70737\" src=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2014\/10\/42GCNCRIMEBYLAMH_626976149-423x317.jpg\" alt=\"The Metro Police officers who formed part of the by-laws team.\" width=\"423\" height=\"317\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dwu32cgxelq1c.cloudfront.net\/local_newspapers\/sites\/31\/2014\/10\/42GCNCRIMEBYLAMH_626976149-423x317.jpg 423w, https:\/\/dwu32cgxelq1c.cloudfront.net\/local_newspapers\/sites\/31\/2014\/10\/42GCNCRIMEBYLAMH_626976149-200x150.jpg 200w, https:\/\/dwu32cgxelq1c.cloudfront.net\/local_newspapers\/sites\/31\/2014\/10\/42GCNCRIMEBYLAMH_626976149.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 423px) 100vw, 423px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-70737\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Metro Police officers who formed part of the by-laws team.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Illegally parked vehicles were towed away, furniture and goods displayed illegally were confiscated and the certification of operating businesses was checked.<\/p>\n<p>Heavy fines were meted out to businesses not complying with the city&#8217;s regulations.<\/p>\n<p>Fake brands confiscated included Adidas, Puma, Nike, Lacoste, Levi&#8217;s, Louis Vuitton, Dunhill and Boss.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These special operations, which are bent on cleaning up our towns, are ongoing,&#8221;
