The Avril Elizabeth Home for the Mentally Handicapped will host their golf day at Serengeti Golf Estate, Kempton Park, on November 13.<\/p>\n
Golfers are invited to enter their teams by contacting Heinrich du Preez, from Radical Golf, at info@radicalgroup.co.za as soon as possible, so that they can be part of this major fund-raising event for the home.<\/p>
“We are very pleased that du Preez has agreed to help us with our second golf day,” said Kathy Jooste, chief executive officer of the Avril Elizabeth Home.<\/p>\n
“He has confirmed that celebrities Darren Kelfkens (Joe from Egoli), Maurice Enslin (Blue Bulls Mascot) and Jannie de Beer (former Springbok flyhalf) will be playing with him on the day.<\/p>
“We are very grateful that they have so generously given of their time for us.<\/p>\n
“Our hope is that more people follow suit and that all four-balls are booked before the end of October.”<\/p>\n
Every cent that is raised through this event goes to the home, which houses 157 permanent residents and provides day care for 20.<\/p>\n
“Throughout their stay, residents receive 24-hour high-quality care, monitoring, special education and stimulation, and occupational, physical and psychological therapy, which are all costly,”said Jooste.<\/p>\n
“In addition, our main building is old and in need of repairs.<\/p>\n
“With the kind of care we give and the unique requirements of our residents, we have to be very careful that everything is well maintained.<\/p>\n
“We have some residents who have been with us for almost as long as we have been in existence.<\/p>\n
“For most of the residents, young and old, this is their home forever.”<\/p>\n
The Avril Elizabeth Home is known for its quality care and cutting edge ideas.<\/p>\n
All residents and day care attendees are intellectually challenged, many with a physical disability.<\/p>\n
