Delayed statement is no reason not to pay your account.<\/p>\n
This is the message sent to residents from the metro.<\/p>
\u201cThe metro has noted the interruption of postal services due to an industrial action by post office workers,\u201d explained Themba Gadebe, from the metro\u2019s department of communication and brand management.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis inevitably has had a negative implication on the delivery of printed municipal account statements.<\/p>
\u201cHowever, a delayed statement is not reason enough for customers not to pay their accounts or to pay them late.<\/p>\n
\u201cResidents who skip payment or pay late will incur arrears on their accounts,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The metro encourages residents to pay similar amounts to the previous month statements should they not have received their current statements.<\/p>\n
Residents who are not receiving their statements by post or summary statements by SMS are encouraged to visit their customer care centres to update their contact details.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe metro\u2019s basket of improved payment methods includes the online system which enables our customers to view and pay their accounts online,\u201d said Gadebe.<\/p>\n
\u201cTherefore, residents are encouraged to register on www.e-siyakhokha.co.za to be able to view their statements online.<\/p>\n
\u201cResidents can also pay their accounts at the customer care centres or outlets identified at the back of their statements.\u201d<\/p>\n
The online system also enables residents to predate payments (eg you can set the system to pay your account on a set date with a set amount if you are on leave or holiday); the system immediately gives you notification of payment; the system keeps records of your accounts and payments from the time you register to use this method and you can query your account while online.<\/p>\n
\u201cOf important to note is that the due date for payment is fixed and it does not change from month to month, which helps not to miss your payment.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen in doubt, customers may phone the numbers at the back of their previous statement,\u201d Gadebe said.<\/p>\n
