{"id":69379,"date":"2014-09-23T11:33:58","date_gmt":"2014-09-23T09:33:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/?p=69379"},"modified":"2014-09-23T11:33:58","modified_gmt":"2014-09-23T09:33:58","slug":"press-conference-sheds-light-return-water-supply","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2014\/09\/23\/press-conference-sheds-light-return-water-supply\/","title":{"rendered":"Press conference sheds no light on return of water supply"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A press conference was held at Rand Water\u2019s Central Depot on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Representatives from Rand Water, Johannesburg Water, City Power and the metro presented the meeting, hoping to shed some clarity on the on-going water crisis.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Louise Pieters, from City Power, explained to journalists in attendance how the installation of a new stand-by transformer would help to ensure that a crisis like this would not happen in the future.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"City power speaks\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/a-YklKjyrww?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>The installation should take place within the next 14 days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the transformer is installed and fully operational we shouldn\u2019t experience any problems in electrical supply as we have now,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The next speaker was Lungile Dlamini the managing director of Johannessburg Water.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"MD of Joburg Water discusses the situation\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Y0v7V2ZK1Qg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>He explained that the water crisis was not isolated to one area but rather was a widespread situation that all the representatives\u2019 departments had attempted to monitor and control.<\/p>\n<p>Dlamini went on to explain the difficulty faced in filling the now depleted reservoirs, \u201cWhen the output is almost as high as the input it becomes increasingly difficult to fill the reservoirs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The reservoirs cannot be shut down completely, this means that consumers can still access the water continuously making it increasingly difficult to normalise the water distribution.<\/p>\n<p>Phil Mashoko was next to take to the floor.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Metro representive speaks\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wNcUJDEASLM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>He explained that the metro originally believed that the low water pressure was due to the normal increase in water demand, associated with the change of season.<\/p>\n<p>However, the situation changed when the water began to completely disappear in suburbs in the metro.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWater has been restored to most suburbs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith our main focus resting on areas such as Primrose and Sunnyridge in Germiston and areas of Bedfordview.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the metro we are trying our best to manage the on-going crisis,\u201d said Mashoko.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur plan forward is to balance the water distribution throughout the metro to try and avoid any one suburb being left without water.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before opening the floor to journalists chief operations officer of Rand Water Sipho Mosai informed those in attendance that Eskom had just informed him that power had been restored to all reservoirs, as some had since been affected by cable theft.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Rand Water speaks\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ObU0aJHSjxk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
