It does not have to be a dream anymore.<\/p>\n<p>The park is now less than an hour away from Johannesburg and a stone\u2019s throw from Cape Town. July 28 marked the commencement of scheduled flights to the newly renovated Skukuza Airport, allowing visitors to fly directly into the heart of this iconic park.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cBefore, tourists would land in Mbombela (formerly Nelspruit) at Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA) about two hours from the park and drive here,\u201d said managing executive of tourism and marketing at SANParks, Glenn Phillips.<\/p>\n<p>The airport started operating in 1959, but scheduled flights were discontinued in 2001 due to the newly constructed KMIA.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>In more recent years, it became necessary to find another method of conveniently bringing tourists to the park.<br \/>\nRodger Foster, CEO of Airlink says they played an important role in restarting scheduled air services to the KNP.<br \/>\n\u201cWe are thrilled to be involved in this public private partnership with SANParks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Construction officially commenced in January and despite major floods halting operations, work was finished in just five months.<\/p>\n<p>To comply with civil aviation authority rules, the runway was resurfaced.<\/p>\n<p>The building fits in with the environment.
