condemns violence during strikes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Government&#8217;s communications and information system department has issued the following statement:<\/p>\n<p>Government has noted with concern the strike by members of <a href=\"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/63417\/eight-numsa-members-arrested-for-public-violence\/\">Numsa<\/a> (National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa) and media reports of vandalism to infrastructure and intimidation of other workers, allegedly committed by the union members.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Government reiterates its condemnation of any form of violence and intimidation during strikes and will not tolerate lawlessness.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Communications, Faith Muthambi said: &#8220;Dialogue must prevail at all times between employers and employees to ensure the realisation of the right to freedom of peaceful disputes for all.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;Government calls on all parties concerned to reach an amicable and speedy resolution.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Whilst South Africans have the constitutional right to protest, intimidation and violence against those not participating in the strike will not be accepted.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;South Africa is a democratic country where concerns ought to be addressed within the framework of the law.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Government remains committed to ensuring stability in all industrial sectors, including steel and engineering, as the industry plays a vital role in the economy.<\/p>\n<p>Government calls on all South Africans, businesses, unions and employees to
