{"id":62758,"date":"2014-06-28T11:40:00","date_gmt":"2014-06-28T09:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/62758\/man-dies-after-being-buried-alive\/"},"modified":"2014-06-30T12:59:54","modified_gmt":"2014-06-30T10:59:54","slug":"man-dies-after-being-buried-alive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2014\/06\/28\/man-dies-after-being-buried-alive\/","title":{"rendered":"Man dies after being buried alive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ekurhuleni Emergency Services, with the help of local police, exhumed the body of a man who had been trapped under a pile of soil while looking for metal scraps.<\/p>\n<p>The incident took place on Tuesday morning, June 24, in Knights Road, opposite the Good Hope Informal Settlement.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>The rescue team and local police were called to the scene by concerned residents.<\/p>\n<p>Upon their arrival, community members explained that three young men had been digging a trench for scraps of metal when there was a cave in.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;They had dug a deep trench in their search for scraps of metal,&#8221; said Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services Media Liaison Officer, William Ntladi. .<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was then that the wall of soil suddenly collapsed, leaving one of the men buried underground.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Realising what had happened, the other two men present tried to dig him out but failed.<\/p>\n<p>It was then that the authorities were called for assistance.<\/p>\n<p>Specialised rescue tools and a TLB Tractor, from the nearby mining company, were used to during the operation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The conditions were extremely dangerous, as the ground was still unstable,&#8221;
