{"id":62307,"date":"2014-06-19T12:10:00","date_gmt":"2014-06-19T10:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/62307\/help-to-feed-the-children\/"},"modified":"2014-06-19T12:50:42","modified_gmt":"2014-06-19T10:50:42","slug":"help-to-feed-the-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2014\/06\/19\/help-to-feed-the-children\/","title":{"rendered":"Help to feed the children"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As the cold begins to really bite, Epworth Children&#8217;s Village is appealing to the community to help them put food on the table.<\/p>\n<p>From July 18 to 28, the home will be holding a food drive.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>In honour of the legacy Nelson Mandela left behind, Epworth is asking the community to unite and to help the home put food on its shelves this winter.<\/p>\n<p>They have adopted the following motto: &#8220;A can&#8230; Can feed a child&#8221;.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>The following items are needed:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tinned foods: baked beans, sweet corn, canned fruit, fish (in tomato sauce &#8211; no chili), tuna, jam, mixed vegetables and tomato and onion mix.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Other items needed: cereals, coffee, flour, Jungle Oats, macaroni, Maltabella porridge, pasta, peanut butter, rice, sugar, syrup, tea and toilet paper.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Epworth has nine houses for which they have to cater.<\/p>\n<p>During the week they supply a cooked meal (supper), and every week each house receives a weekly basket to provide them with basics to cover breakfast and lunch.<\/p>\n<p>Any treats would also be welcome.<\/p>\n<p>All kinds of groceries are welcome, from dry goods and tinned food to condiments, cleaning materials and toilet paper.<\/p>\n<p>If collecting cans is not your thing and you want to do some physical community work, you can get involved in the following two projects:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Garden project:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The training room has a small garden that needs lots of work in terms of landscaping, planting flowers, tidying up edges, etc.<\/p>\n<p>All materials and tools must be provided by the volunteer.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Vegetable garden project:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you have green fingers this is for you &#8212;
