{"id":59617,"date":"2014-05-09T09:30:00","date_gmt":"2014-05-09T07:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/59617\/new-flushing-toilets-for-residents\/"},"modified":"2014-05-09T09:51:57","modified_gmt":"2014-05-09T07:51:57","slug":"new-flushing-toilets-for-residents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2014\/05\/09\/new-flushing-toilets-for-residents\/","title":{"rendered":"New flushing toilets for residents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The stench from the septic tank toilet system which residents of Zonkizizwe had to endure, especially during summer season, is now a thing of the past.<\/p>\n<p>This follows an injection of more than R17-million for the construction of 912 brick and mortar toilet structures.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Ekurhuleni executive mayor Clr Mondli Gungubele celebrated with the residents, last Monday, when he officially launched the waterborne toilet structure in the area.<\/p>\n<p>This toilet system brings to an end a number of challenges, including the fact that some septic tank toilets did not have washbasins, thereby compromising the health of the community members.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>It must be noted that the water and sewer services were installed in Zonkizizwe a long time ago by the then Transvaal Provincial Government, but excluded the provision of waterborne toilets.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, corrugated toilets with septic tanks were erected.<\/p>\n<p>On some stands no toilets were provided at all, and owners constructed pit latrines.<\/p>\n<p>The launch of this project means that the metro is responding to the national and international sanitation drive informed by the United Nations General Assembly, in a resolution adopted last year, in December.<\/p>\n<p>The resolution called on member states to redouble the efforts to close the sanitation gap.<\/p>\n<p>It is further an important stride towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals on sanitation.<\/p>\n<div class=\"stream-item stream-item-below-post-content\">\n<div class='tenancy_slot tenancy_slot_1 jannah_ad' style='display: none;' data-query-id='397d263e03be85b6166354bf13cd44d5'><\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Zonkizizwe residents&#8217; dignity restored.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1848,"featured_media":59619,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"hasGravity":false,"cxt_article_byline":"","cxt_disable_google_ads":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[8515,2],"tags":[1003,979,2734,1002,1004,2299,1291],"class_list":["post-59617","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-local-municipal-news","category-news-headlines","tag-ekurhuleni","tag-germiston","tag-melissa-hart","tag-metro","tag-municipality","tag-toilets","tag-zonkizizwe"],"amp_enabled":true,"category_labels":{"Category":"News","SubCategory":"Municipal"},"tag_labels":["Ekurhuleni","germiston","melissa hart","metro","municipality","toilets","zonkizizwe"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/59617","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1848"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=59617"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/59617\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/59619"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=59617"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=59617"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=59617"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
